Minerals Extraction Proposal
Min 92 GRX : 6394Y : 2993
Land East of Ferry Lane Heck
I have noted that a request has been made for permission to remove minerals from the above land. In your consideration of the matter I would request that you bear in mind the following:
1) For the last 30 years approximately aggregates have successfully been removed from the present Norton workings to the east of the site under consideration. The present pit is in a sizeable block of land bordered by four Macadam Roads, New Road, Low Road, Loddon Road, and the Western Road next the MIN 92 site. These workings I would suggest, have had minimal impact on the surrounding area. With the borderland remaining in agricultural use and edges planted with now well established woodland belts, plus the access road is independent of the minor roads network.
2) This success is now put in jeopardy by this proposal which in effect 'leaps' the safeguarding zone described above and establishes an unprotected excavation in landscape which can only be described as of 'outstanding natural beauty' plus this site (MIN 92) is immediately adjacent the Broads Authority National Park which needs a great deal of hinterland safeguarding.
3) Ferry Road has all the appearance and atmosphere of an ancient by way and is lined in places by historic oaks confirming its importance it is along with its surroundings vital to tourism in the area being well used, along with the road to the east, by walkers and cyclists.
Clearly to grant permission for extraction on MIN92 A relatively small area would have a multitude of negative effects, along with those above wildlife is going to suffer and neighbours and those enjoying recreation will have to deal with noise nuisance. Costs will outweigh benefits.
I would strongly suggest that the council does not support the request to exploit this land for mineral resources.
