Respondent: Ms Ann Wilby

Representation Summary:

I object most strongly to the proposed Waveney forest sand and gravel pit.

Local people and those from surrounding areas use the forest as an amenity for exercise and dog walking.
The chopping down of trees to access the sand and gravel is not environmentally friendly..we need more trees, not less.
Areas of young trees (I think they are douglas firs) have been planted over the years to provide the next crops of wood for building. How can you justify pulling these up?
The added transport onto the A143 which is already a busy main road, and not designed to take the heavy traffic, especially on the Beccles Road bend next to the Jolly Anglers.
The dust and noise pollution of heavy plant machinery working all hours is unacceptable to those in Fritton who have chosen to live in a small village, aspiring to a quieter, tranquil and healthier life.
There are many military sites scattered throughout the whole of the forest, that are reminders of the WW2 (and possibly WW1) training grounds. There are weapons pits, zig-zag trenches, underground hides, a rifle range, concrete bases, sewerage systems.. to name but a few, that would be desecrated and lost forever. There are possibly caches of hidden or buried unexploded ammunition.
There will be loss of the biodiversity, wild flowers, animals, reptiles, insects, moths, butterflies,to name but a few, that exist within the forest habitat.
To loose Waveney Forest as we know it today would be a crass and criminal act, it should be left alone for all residents and visitors to enjoy not torn apart.
