Respondent: Ms Amanda Stacey

Representation Summary:

I object to the proposed plan for Bretts Aggregates company to set up a sand and gravel extraction site at Waveney Forest (Fritton Woods) for several reasons:
1, The impact on the local environment / infrastructure will be considerable and negative. Heavy lorries and machinery back and forth will cause much damage, pollution etc. Our drinking water for the region lies close to the proposed site and will be subject to pollution from dust and particles blown around.
2. The woodlands are the only proper forest in the area and used on a regular basis by many local people. Dog walkers, cyclists, ramblers, people seeking a place to soak up nature. In this day and age of 'obesity in children and adults' is it not a good thing to keep this facility for the mental and physical well being of the many folk who use it?
3. Local planning authorities are required to have policies in their development plans which protect SSSIs, they are required to consult the appropriate conservation bodies over planning applications which might affect the interest of a SSSI (such a development might not be within or even close to the SSSI itself).
Breydon Water (the gateway to out Norfolk Broads) is a Ramsar site, wetlands of international importance, an SSSI. It is my belief that putting an extraction site slap bang next to Breydon Water would be an environmental disaster.
4. Businesses in the area would suffer.
Ten years have passed by since the same company submitted plans, which were thankfully rejected.
Since that time the area has flourished, nature abhors a vacuum and has over time filled the area with flora and fauna, to a much greater extent than previously existed there.

I have been walking the well trodden paths of the woods for over 45 years and have never seen as much life there as is currently flourishing. I would strongly urge you and any of the other decision makers to go an walk those paths yourselves.
