I visited Waveney Forest for the first time last month. Where I live in rural Shropshire we are lucky to have large areas of unspoilt woodland which enhances the county's tourist income. I love Norfolk and Suffolk and visit every summer, but exploring further this time, due to retirement and being able to be there longer. I found a lack of uncultivated land, i.e. woodland and heath, which was a disappointment, until I discovered Waveney. I enjoyed two long walks on separate days. The forest delighted me in particular as being completely different to anything we have in Shropshire. I felt I could stay a bit longer in the area with such an amenity to enjoy. In the 8 days I was there this year I not only paid for my stay at a nearby camping and caravan site, but also used local shops and restaurants: it is an area particularly attractive to countryside-loving visitors. A quarry there would deter me from staying nearby. It goes without saying that local wildlife would suffer catastrophically.
