I am a regular user of the woodland and will be deeply disappointed, it is one of the only safe places I can go and take my horses without the danger of the traffic these days.

Comments
There is no doubt that the continuous process of silica extraction causes land degradation and loss of biodiversity. Mitigating measures cannot replace what is lost. The Norfolk landscape has been scarred and ecosystems destroyed by existing quarries. It is an unsustainable project the intention of which is to extract silica sand for 20 years. The destruction of Shouldham Warren, a managed wood, that has existed for many more than 20 years, is irreplaceable. It surely goes against Government and County policy on the preservation of woodland and important ecosystems now that a climate emergency has been declared.

I have found wildlife in these woods that I have never seen in the wild before,grass snakes, lizards and deer all live in here,where will they go?

This is not the right location for this kind of development. The woodland must be preserved for biodiversity and to help reduce carbon emissions.

I use Shouldham woods to walk and use my bike. I have good memories playing here and it would be bad to loose this place for kids to explore and enjoy nature. I like seeing the birds and animals and having the chance to exercise outside safely. More and more areas are being taken away. We need green spaces to explore freely.

This lovely place is used by so many, it provides an ideal place for all ages, able to enjoy nature in a lovely safe environment .
We need to protect the area from development, other surrounding open spaces are already earmarked for housing.
As already said we need the tree & open areas if only for the good of the environment, & for future generations.
The local area cannot cope with increased heavy traffic.
Our roads are already too busy, & we feel hemmed in with tourists through the summer months & Sugarbeet lorries/ tractors in the winter.
There isn't a day that goes by that there isn't a report of road traffic accidents.

one of the few safe places to horse ride away from traffic in this time when our green spaces are under pressure we must refuse to let this happen. destroying this ancient and beautiful place is against our human rights . we know first hand the effects of sand quarrying we live in ashwicken and have seen the devistation and impact it has on the environment. the scars it leaves behind. we have lost access and gained nothing from the quarrying only pits full of water breeding ground for mossies and biting flies. WE NEED OUR GREEN SPACES MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING EXERCISE AND RELAXATION DO THE RIGHT THING. there is no need for this sand which is used in glass etc as all can come from recycling the glass we have.

It is used for outdoor exercise by 1000s of people; young and old. The loss of long-established woodlands would be devastating for mental health and physical well-being. It would be a disaster for the biodiversity of flora and fauna supported by that ecosystem. The destruction of woodland, never to be restored, is unacceptable at a time when Govt's policy (Clean Growth Strategy) is to increase the number of trees in the UK - "Establish a new network of forests in England... plant 11 million trees". We are facing a Climate Crisis. Shouldham Warren is one of our precious planet's lungs, capturing 11,000 tonnes of C02 per year. The Warren provides clean air, home to precious biodiversity, valuable educational space for children and a recreational area well used by so many people. The lack of an improved glass recycling plan to increase the amount of glass cullet available to UK glass manufacturers makes further quarrying for silica sand at the current rate morally wrong. My family care deeply for Shouldham and its surroundings and have been walking and cycling there for three generations. Any quarrying plan fills us with great anxiety. It would be a disaster for this wonderful area and for the wider environment.
